Summer 2024 is Looking to be a Scorcher

Keep your shades and sunscreen handy as meteorologists predict an exceptionally warm summer for the majority of the United States. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) recently unveiled a summer forecast map, which paints the country in shades of red and orange, indicating above-average temperatures for the months of June, July, and August.

The regions most likely to experience this unusual heat include the Northeast and a significant portion of the West. The Weather Company also anticipates above-average temperatures across the country, with their forecaster, Todd Crawford, suggesting that the summer of 2024 could potentially be one of the hottest on record.

However, not all weather forecasters agree. AccuWeather predicts a milder-than-average summer across the U.S., with a few hot spots in the Northeast and the Southwest.

NOAA meteorologist Anthony Artusa attributes the warm summer forecast to the fading El Niño and the emerging La Niña, along with long-term trends of above-normal temperatures. Unfortunately, no part of the contiguous U.S. is expected to have cooler-than-average temperatures during the summer months.

As for precipitation, forecasts suggest a wet summer for much of the Eastern Seaboard, while most of the Plains and Rockies can expect a drier-than-average summer.

This combination of heat and dryness could intensify drought and wildfires across the West.

However the weather shakes out, Mantis Innovation can help you get ready for the summer heat, from assessing your HVAC equipment to creating an energy strategy that gets ahead of higher rates.
